To be honest, that doesn't look entirely dissimilar to a pig farm feeding system I was brought in to "modernise" a number of years back.

(Probably smells better too).
 
I'd start with dust/corrosion protection and proper ergonomics for the electrical equipment before doing anything about the networking, and the rest. Even cheap equipment works better if it's taken care of at some minimum level, instead of being left out to rot. ? I guess the funny part is that the pics show what happens when people have this "I don't care, I don't wanna know - but I want the benefits, dammit!". ?

astyle, well, everything is clean, vintage, neat in the garage. Nice, cute. All the devices are washed with shampoo (vodka). A good start-up for a retro-tech museum.
And this is not a picture, but still fun. Here it is, a real frenzy, not a glamorous party. Voice over: "Fck, guys. He's fcked. I don't know what to do...".

USerID I think it would be stupid simple idea to maybe keep that door closed, and maybe reorganize the cables so that the door can be actually closed and not propped open... :rolleyes: At this point, vacuuming might be not a bad idea, right after you boil that egg. ?

But when it comes to doing sensible things to protect valuable electronic devices - sometimes you come across moronic decision makers even in US. I once suggested adding a UPS to a few devices at $JOB a few years ago. That suggestion came right after a power outage where a substantial portion of town lost power. I was told, "Yeah, great idea, very sensible, but the boss would not approve this purchase". Meaning, the boss repeatedly decided that a few UPSes (even consumer grade stuff for about $70 USD) are beyond the budget for the project. The devices that went down in that power outage? Large format printers that are worth around $25,000 USD. :rolleyes:

This one place where I worked, all our Windows workstations had UPSes. You what didn't have a UPS? The Sun box that was our Oracle server...
 
USerID that is wrong. The crappy diaper never ends up on easy to clean surfaces and never bounces off easy to clean surfaces. This one failed to hit the walls. Score points for the carpet and hands of that competitor. But I'll give him 6/10. He missed the wallpaper, his hair and upholstery behind him.

Maybe it's better to pay attention to the GF rather than the screen, then? And learn to live with the downsides (and enjoy the upsides in the process) ? Fans of BSD have learned to live with the downsides like lack of drivers (and enjoy the upsides like stability and not having to pay for a software subscription). Otherwise, this is infinite recursion of doing the same thing over and over again, and then complaining that you can't get out of that loop... 😩
