signalapp / Signal-Desktop

Because it's still the same version that you reinstalled! I think Signal has a feature that checks when it was last updated and disables itself if that's too long ago. By reinstalling it, even the same version, you reset the counter.

Now the penny dropped. 🥴

That is a crazy application logic.

As of now (19 January 2025) on FreeBSD 14.2-RELEASE, signal-desktop is not available.
Is it being updated or something? - for me, it is a very important application.

disappeared from 14.2 quarterly. https://www.freshports.org/net-im/signal-desktop#packages
:-(

It will be an endless cycle until they do manage to build several versions of electron.

Example: Electron is present --> Apps are consuming it --> Electron update --> Apps are updated to use the newer version ---> New electron version have to be whitelisted to be built --> Package will not be present in time that apps can consume the new version.

There is an unofficial signal app that recently pushed to the ports tree, i hope it would have better availability than net-im/signal-desktop because it uses rust unlike signal that needs to built with Electron which take a lot hours to build. net-im/flare. It's still in development and doesn't have all the features of official signal app has. There is also a problem with flare, affecting wayland users, at least Sway.
