On what do you spend money ?

You should go in those countries where I traveled as student long time ago.
What kind are these?
Gold is a long term investment.
+ silver too.
Some wifes are an asset, some a liability. And some change from asset to liability.
I would add: an official state wife is a systemic risk. It is worse than casinos and slot machines. No registry office!
gold and silver are likely to continue to appreciate against the US$.
100%

I still hear my grandpa tell me "what is in your head, can not be taken from you." My grandparents went to two big wars, they knew about hard times.

The old saw goes:
"When you are young, you want THINGS. When old, experiences."
Things take up space, need to be maintained, carted around, etc.

As you get older, those things start to become outright burdens. You start looking for ways to do without them. The experiences you can carry around in your head/heart for very little cost (beyond the cost of acquiring them in the first place).

[Trust me, when you get older, you will understand the wisdom, here! :< ]

Dentistry. Brush your teeth kids. It'll save you a lot of money in the long run. I have spent a few thousand euro this year alone to get everything fixed again. On the plus side, tomorrow is, hopefully, the last visit of the, rather extensive, renovations. But damn, dentistry is expensive, I've had bills of 1500,- euro for a single visit.

Tomorrow i will see my dentist. I'm in very bad shape. I can lose all my teeth in the long run.
But i drunk a lot of Coca-cola when is was working under stress. The outside of my teeth, one of the strongest materials ever, has eroded. My advice don't drink too often Coca-cola. The acid even dissolves metals.

A single crown (cap?) here can easily run to $2000 -- depending on the amount of glitz in the dentist's waiting room...

It is common for latin americans to hold a wedge of lemon or lime between their teeth (flesh side towards the enamel) as a refreshing treat. The acid eats the enamel so it is not uncommon to encounter latinx with "etched" front teeth.

Some years ago, I needed a root canal, but the tooth was deeply cracked. So I had to get an implant instead. That turned out to be a well disguised, but very expensive, blessing. I won't say how much it cost, but the small chat from the peridontist included discussions about his Ferraris.

Implants are infamous for collecting and harbouring detritus on the gum line. This annoyed me immensely, as the tongue seeks and finds foreign materials.

As a result, I started carrying and using dental tape on a regular basis. I also switched to an electric toothbrush.

My teeth are old, cracked, worn, and somewhat vulnerable. I had two crowns, due to cracks, in the last year. But I have not had a single new cavity in about a decade.

The regular use of dental tape and an electric toothbrush is a simple solution to good oral health (but do avoid sugary drinks).

In my house..I got a big one,my grandfather build it..my mother live all they life here and now is for me and my daughter
some fix here..some there, some improvements, all done with my hands(and tools of course 😆)
and from time to time "gifts" to me..
also I like tools...

Tools, Tools and more tools!

Every different trade imaginable. I can mill my own woodwork and build my own cabinets in my woodshop, I can repair my own electronics in my electronics shop, I can weld and plasma cut, I can install HVAC or repair a car's AC, I can run my own plumbing and gas lines, build an insulated shed from scratch, wire a house, rebuild an engine, do my own brakes, weld my own custom exhausts, I even taught myself how to rebuild automatic transmissions for fun. I own a cement mixer and a digital tire balancer, a paint booth, a sand blaster and every air tool I could think of possibly needing.

There is always a project to make the tool purchase seem viable but if I break even I'm happy. Each new endeavor gives me an opportunity to go and buy a new set of tools and nothing is better than a Saturday afternoon with a new hobby and a new set of tools.

I'm getting ready to retire and we're building a 1750 sqft home and a 1536 sqft shop for me to play around in.
