On my HP xw9400, when I boot from a stick with FreeBSD-12.1-RELEASE-amd64, I get a list as follows
BIOS drive C: is disk0
through
BIOS drive H: is disk5

Then it hangs at the vertical bar. Why might this be?
Important notes:
1) This tutorial assumes you have the OS you want to dual-boot with already installed on your drive, and that you already have freed up some disk space. Essentially, you will be installing FreeBSD with root-on-ZFS on the remaining free space of the disk, instead of using the...
Hi there,
Nowadays, UEFI boot and multiboot is a matter for all of us. We have more storage, GPT let us have many primary partitions and after all, with a boot loader like GRUB you will do it, Have a system with a few OS for Gaming, Developing, Testing, Work, etc.
Most setups end like this:

What I'm considering doing is using a generic two port M.2 drive (SATA and NVMe) as my root and swap device. Two of my systems on the network I'm constructing do not suport UEFI (HP Microserver G7 N54L). The M.2 SATA SSD is going to be connected to the internal systemboard SATA port.
I'm...
From reading other posts, it looks like a UEFI + GELI + ZFS root system should be possible with 12.1. I used both the -b and the -g flags when setting up GELI, but I'm not even prompted for a password at boot. It looks like there might be an error, but it flashes by so quickly I can't read it...
I'm trying ro install freebsd (12.0) on my MSI laptop with uefi.
I'm facing a strange issue. I can boot on a UFS usb stick, but after install on ssd (using ZFS), my ssd is not bootable.
I try the installation with and without 4k sectors options and with different partition scheme...
Greetings! I've built several nanobsd systems, performed multiple upgrades (using two root file systems) and, so far, everything worked great. Enter UEFI. With UEFI boot process is handled by /boot/boot1.efi (uefi) and gptboot is no-longer in use. Therefore partition attributes, such as bootme...
Greetings everyone,
I'm a GNU/Linux user (Fedora), and I just wanted to give FreeBSD a try with a Virtual MAchine (VBox).
First I tried to install FreeBSD with BIOS mode and slim and MATE desktop according to this guide :

Hello everyone!
I'm wondering if it's possible to install FreeBSD 12.0 on a GPT disk but on a server whose firmware is not UEFI. I found this thread that says it's possible. Can you confirm this or even add more details?
Thx
The Freebsd Handbook, section 12.2 on the boot process, contains a note that seems to state that Freebsd does not support direct UEFI booting.
The concern is that on our two Freebsd machines, the BIOS are set for UEFI.
The note reads:
Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I accidentally deleted the bootloader entry generated by FreeBSD's installer in my UEFI firmware. I used to see an entry, when I pressed F9 (which lists all available bootloaders), that pertained to FreeBSD, but I did some deleting with efibootmgr of bootloaders I didn't need anymore and I...
I cannot seem to get WOL working with FreeBSD on my server based on a ASRock B250M Pro4 board. In the UEFI Chip Set Configuration of the board, I enabled PCIe/PCI Devices Power On.
Actually, when I start the system into the UEFI settings, and then by using the power button directly switch it...
Hi all,
Freshly installed FreeBSD 11 Release on my Lenovo W520 with UEFI and VT. When I boot from FreeBSD ISO DVD, UEFI only and VT, everything looks normal, after installation completed and reboot the system here what the output looks like (please look at the attached file).
Without loading...
Just a quick test; I booted FreeBSD 11.1-RC3 (amd64) off a usb memory stick on this machine. After the kernel loads, console output is corrupted (graphics corruption), Ctrl-Alt-Del works, so presumably the keyboard works. To work around the console problem, escape to the boot loader prompt and...
Hi!
I've been using FreeBSD 9 on a fairly old computer based on Intel® DG45FC motherboard, with a Celeron 64bit CPU. After 3 years lying there gathering dust, I've decided to repurpose it and run the latest release.
So far, I've been unsuccessful at booting FreeBSD 10.3/11.0-RELEASE (AMD64)...
Hello,
I have exactly the same problem, which is also described in this thread.
However, the solution does not work for me.
Before the beastie menu, the boot loader asks for the password.
No matter what I enter there, the boot process continues.
Later, when the root system is to be mounted...
I have read about a Apple Mac EFI rootkit by a certain government agency.
I always knew in my heart that EFI was evil.
Does your computer boot faster with EFI?
What features from the EFI list above do you need and use?
As my kernel messages were scrolling through I suddenly get this scrolling through endlessly:
vm_fault: pager read error, pid 1 (init)
If I look quick enough, it seems to happen at the very end of the boot-up.
For what its worth, I am doing this very odd remote dual-boot setup where I change...
Hi,
I just have dd'ed the amd64 ISO (11.0-RELEASE) to an USB stick, but it fails to boot in UEFI mode.
How can I create an UEFI bootable USB stick?
Olaf
I've been trying to put FreeBSD on my laptop (Dell XPS15, l502x). Previously, the memory stick worked (10.1 works), but on FreeBSD 10.3 and 11.0 (I haven't tried 10.2), boot fails with an "Operating system not found" message on screen. My laptop uses the traditional BIOS and UEFI
I have a...
