Hi,
I’m trying to decrease the screen resolution for the console on my laptop which has a default resolution 1920x1080 ( 12.5 ‘’) booting in UEFI.
At the end of the boot, I got a nice console very bright and clear but with it's very very small and makes the reading very complicated
After...
Hello!
Happy and healthy 2021 to every and each one!
This is my story: I've just built a FreeBSD machine to use primarly as a NFS/ZFS home server. CPU is a Pentium G4560 (7th gen), case NAS 800, MoBo mini-ITX, 32GB ECC mem and 5x 4TB HDD Toshiba N300.
MoBo has only 6 SATA connections in...
I've set up remote VPS systems with GELI disk encryption, including swap encryption, during FreeBSD 12.2 installation.
I've locked down SSH quite securely too so I presume now when remoting in, security is reasonably assured.
I want to address the possibility that within the VPS terminal's web...
Hello,
I have an old IBM ThinkPad G40 with an mSATA to IDE adapter so I could use an SSD in the machine. The installation went just fine. However, when I boot the machine (from the drive), it says "Operating System Not Found". I'm not sure if this is related, but the BIOS does not have...
tl;dr I added 'snd_driver_load="YES"' and now I am stuck at freebsd logo with loud fans.
I haven't been able to get audio to work on my new FreeBSD 13-CURRENT install. I had basically tried everything, reconnected everything and pressed every google, bsd forum and bug tracker link and done...
On my HP xw9400, when I boot from a stick with FreeBSD-12.1-RELEASE-amd64, I get a list as follows
BIOS drive C: is disk0
through
BIOS drive H: is disk5

Then it hangs at the vertical bar. Why might this be?
I have a mini router from netgate - the SG-1000. It is sold as a pfsense device but it has a microSD card slot inside of it.
I have what I *thought* was a good recipe for writing a FreeBSD img file to an SD card, but when I put the SD card into the netgate SG-1000 (and insert the jumper on the...
Only recently started to try BSD systems but for my dismay whenever I booted a system that had more than 5 devices ( HDDs, SSDs , USB drives ) it locks ( freezes ) during the device enumeration.
Found this behaviour in several flavours ( FreeBSD, OpenBSD, XigmaNAS, GhostBSD ) in several...

Dual boot Win10 and FreeBSD on separate drives.
Win10 is in an Optane/iRST config, so it's enabled in the BIOS.
When I want to boot into FreeBSD, I find that the only way to do so is disabling iRST, otherwise this happens during boot:
nvme_ctrlr_start_config_hook...
1. Some messages are available after booting (using dmesg), but some are not. What's up with that? A lot of the time, the messages that I want to see aren't included in dmesg.
2. For messages that aren't available in dmesg, are they captured elsewhere?
3. The output during boot seems overly...
Tell me who knows!! How to double-boot Windows 7 and FreeBSD from 2 separate disks.
Tried to install FreeBSD 12.1 RELEASE amd64.

Hi, newcomer here.
I'm having problems with unusually long boot time of the system. It takes around 45 seconds. I don't remember it being that way last time I tinkered with FreeBSD. The system I installed it on is Thinkpad T440p with i5-4300m, 12GB RAM and I used the m.2 SATA SSD for it. I used...
Hi guys. I must admit I am starting to lose it :D
I have been investigating FreeBSD internals the last week and it really looks like magic to me. First thing I want to state my objectives. I want to build a sort of live/ro/non tamperable installation of FreeBSD. I have investigated NomadBSD to...
What I'm considering doing is using a generic two port M.2 drive (SATA and NVMe) as my root and swap device. Two of my systems on the network I'm constructing do not suport UEFI (HP Microserver G7 N54L). The M.2 SATA SSD is going to be connected to the internal systemboard SATA port.
I'm...
I added line
hint.acpi.0.disable="1" in /boot/loader.conf
Now, its throwing me error
Panic:running without device atpic requires a local APIC.
Now I am unable to access loader.conf to remove hint.acpi.0.disable="1
Is there any way I can edit /boot/loader.conf from boot menu??
Hi,
I'm using FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE-p4 as Desktop OS on my Lenovo X230 with 16GB RAM and ZFS as file system. This is my first FreeBSD install. So far, I haven't had any issues with ZFS, but I have some slightly concerning boot messages and was wondering if I should change any ZFS-related...
I just created a new system from sysinstall (used the 12.0-RELEASE ISO) and chose to use the nice, menu driven ZFS boot config that is now in sysinstall.
Everything went fine and I am booted up, etc. however I am really surprised to see all of the individual filesystems that were created for me...
Hi, I need to install freebsd on windows machine. The bootloader must be in a usb key, preferably in the second partition.
Something like this:
ada0s3a as root partition;
ada0s3b as swap partition;
da1s2 (usb key) as boot partition.
I have tried several ways to do this without success.
I come...
I'm trying to upgrade an old computer of mine from FreeBSD 11.0 to 12.0-RELEASE. I ran freebsd-update -r 12.0-RELEASE upgrade then, after that succeeded, ranfreebsd-update install and tried to reboot. It started shutting down, but before restarting it got stuck in a state with text on the...
