Amazon prime versus netflix.

Prime; they have Live TV (mostly 24/7s of specific shows but pretty good variety) plus other Amazon stuff (I got some free Runescape membership from Twitch rewards and DRM-free Baldurs Gate 1 :p).

Netflix started looking real sketchy with https://old.reddit.com/r/assholedes...ix_is_now_restricting_some_shows_if_you_have/ like that's wild they even locked out their own in-house series like House of Cards. You gotta pay for their service any-tier, but you aren't allowed to watch good stuff if you don't pay more.

Netflix (afaik) only offers TV episodes and movies. That stuff is also offered by other providers (like Amazon with Prime), and can be found anywhere on numerous other platforms/places with better value imo, and/or less restrictions

Netflix floods you with content but the quality of the story can be questionable. And it's always all about the story.
Prime seems to pick up what they can but it's not their core business so it can take a long time between good stories.

I kinda like Netflix but also noticed that I had been watching less and less... the most notable series was Edgerunners (I enjoy Cyberpunk 2077?) and the rest... well, the irony of it all is that I figured things would change since WWE moved onto Netflix and I used to enjoy sporadically watching Raw and/or Smackdown on YouTube but after a few weeks of that... well... I actually got bored with the sheer repetitiveness week in and week out (not to mention the predictability).

Then my Internet/TV provider got me free access to... Sky showtime and well.. whatever, so I stopped my Netflix subscription; we're currently putting all of that into a savings to fund renewing Dazn at the start of the upcoming NFL season (despite living in the Netherlands I've grown quite fond of a good football match).

These days I'd rather watch the buildup to Superbowl 🏈 than WrestleMania and/or the Rumble. For everything else Sky works for me.

Used to have both.
Prime only for some exclusive tv shows most of the time and older stuff.
Netflix - just because i could use VPN to change regions and Prime did not allowed me.
But by end of the day - said NO to all streaming services as im very picky with "what to watch" i started do more torrents or watch on Youtube ( as there are some things to watch ).

I'm re-watching Steins;Gate and laughing at how they show a hex dump and call it "IBM's proprietary programming language of 1970s"! 😂

But in all honesty, I should get a torrent with better mkv's than what the WhyNot subtitling group was able to prepare and release. 😩

Steins;Gate is nice.
It got a prequel anime adaption called Steins;Gate 0 I believe.

Neither. I don't do streaming services because I won't "sign up" for any online service that requires shedding of my online alias...or that requires automated electronic bill paying.
I agree, but you can just use temporarely fake e-mails. Paying is another story, though.

As for me, I have a VPN for streaming, and my well... "friend" I guess, has amazon prime.
So, we are quite flexible if it comes to series or movies.

Amazon Prime. I was drawn in by the Prime Music that was bundled with it - free streaming music, ad free, curated playlist, and you could download for offline listening. There was a thing called "Autorip"? that offered free MP3 versions of CD's and Vinyls you purchased, too. That was kind of a big deal back then. If you bough a CD or Vinyl, the MP3 version would be in your Amazon Music library - they were also DRM-free. I think they even offered it for past CD and Vinyl purchase, too? The music is what got me to sign up for a Prime Acocunt. I've never really used it for movies but I did use it to watch the first season of Fallout.

Netflix... I remember everyone talking about getting DVD's in the mail, red envelopes. Kind of like the Columbia House for movies. I signed up. I think Netflix made DVDx, DVDXRip, and DVD Shrink household names lol.

curated playlist,
I hate it when somebody else tries to decide for me what to play. Spotify is NOT what I want, even if embedding it in a Forums post here is OK. If I were walking down the Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles, and heard live music playing in a bar, that's one thing. But if I'm relaxing at home, the decision on what music I listen to - it's mine. That's what my headphones are for... What if I like a specific song and want to play it on repeat or at least fairly often? Like this one:

Stuff that I like and try to find - it's not even easy to find it on US-centric streaming services. Even if it pops up and I find it by luck, it's hard to archive it unless I figure out something like OBS Studio and put in some effort. And even that is only something that appeared relatively recently.

Seems like a false dilemma.

I suppose if the programmes you like are on Netflix, then that's the best, if they're on Amazon, then that's better. If you don't watch anything on either, but use the Prime service for deliveries, then Amazon is better.

Whether DRM, telemetry or non free software is used on either is a different issue. I.e. Star Wars on Disney+ isn't bad because there's DRM in use. It's bad if you don't like Star Wars.

I believe the commercials on some of these platforms are controlled in the subscription. If you pay a bit more, there's no commercials.

What I dislike about all of these platforms are 1) the restrictions on allowing family to use your account, 2) the UI, 3) charging more and more on top of the subscription fee per film or to remove ads. Netflix in particular just starts playing the currently selected item after a time, there is also the "household" restrictions which are just a pain.

Here in the UK they're still preferable to a TV licence and the unsufferable BBC.
