Solved Upgrade to freeBSD 13.2 causing trouble with vboxdrv.ko

Hi,

$ freebsd-version
13.2-RELEASE-p2

Since I upgraded to FreeBSD 13.2, vboxdrv.ko (virtualbox-ose-kmod-6.1.46) can't load :
# dmesg
.
.
.
KLD vboxdrv.ko: depends on kernel - not available or version mismatch
linker_load_file: /boot/modules/vboxdrv.ko - unsupported file type

Curious because :

Have you the same experience ?
Could be a bug from kernel version detection ?

Either the upgrade is not complete and you are running on older kernel version or, you need to recompile the kernel module after the upgrade to make it compatible to the version of the kernel you have.

pkg upgrade or if this does not work pkg upgrade -f.
Or rebuild all ports if you use ports.

Update or reinstall emulators/virtualbox-ose-kmod. The 13.1 packages for this kernel module did not work on 13.2. In the meantime 13.1 has gone EoL and packages have been rebuilt for 13.2 specifically.

But at long term I suggest you to use Bhyve instead of VirtualBox, in my opinion it produces less problems than VirtualBox:

This could be a better idea, so. I thought bhyve was an hypervisor for servers.

I am using it in my desktop machine without problems
