Hardware Support Inquiry for HP Laptop 15-fd0051ne

Hi everyone,

I’m considering installing FreeBSD on my HP Laptop 15-fd0051ne and wanted to ask about hardware compatibility. Specifically, I’m curious about the following components:

  • Graphics: Is the integrated GPU well-supported?
  • Wi-Fi: What’s the experience with the wireless adapter?
  • Audio: How does the sound hardware perform?
  • Touchpad and Keyboard: Any known issues with functionality?
  • Battery and Power Management: How well does FreeBSD handle power management on this model?
If anyone has experience with this laptop or can provide insights on these components, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to The FreeBSD Forums.

… the integrated GPU … the wireless adapter …

15-fd0051ne is not found in the BSD Hardware Database, so it will help to know PCI IDs for components such as the GPU and the Wi-Fi adapter. There's greater likelihood of finding components in the Database.

For test purposes, and to get the info, you could write FreeBSD-15.0-CURRENT-amd64-20240919-ce9c3abf69c2-272286-disc1.iso (a development snapshot) to a USB flash drive, boot from the drive, then at the command line (without running the installer):

pciconf -lv

For information about the GPU alone:

pciconf -lv | grep -B 3 display
