Hello folks, I need to mount a NetBSD FFS disk but through XFCE4 I can mount it only in read mode.
I was convinced that Unix filesystems were compatible across all the BSD families.
I wonder if I can mount it with:
# mount -t ufs -o ro,ufstype=44bsd /dev/$PARTITION /mnt/netbsd

For FreeBSD users, and those who've ever used FreeBSD, share your NetBSD experience. Including, if you've used NetBSD for complementary use with FreeBSD, such as needing hardware support for access.

As stated in the title, I would like to change the kernel of my Unix build from FreeBSD to NetBSD, as I prefer the philosophy of the rump kernel to that of a monolithic, but prefer the lexicography and semantics of FreeBSD's system applications. The current build is FreeBSD, with only sudo...
Is there a way to use a RocketRaid or any Raid card as a regular SATA interface on FreeBSD? I'm hoping that there's a generic driver that treats about any PCI card with a SATA interface as a regular SATA interface, regardless of whether it uses any RAID or other features.
It's a RocketRaid...
I came across the following article online:
https://washbear.neocities.org/freebsd-netbsd-user.html
It's interesting, for sure, but I'm curious how accurate it is. Among other items, the author claims FreeBSD's init system is derived from NetBSD's and that pkg comes from NetBSD's pkgsrc. I...
Hello,
I've just setup a NAS running NFS on NetBSD. I can automatically mount the directory over NFS with the fstab entry:
x.x.x.:/samsMegaStorage /mnt/storage nfs rw 0 0
(where x.x.x.x is the Ip address of the server)
However when I mount it using sudo mount -a the owner of...
No problem with Bhyve, just to have more option. Dragonfly doesn't have any hypervisor, so it's more important to them. But I think no thing prevents NVMM on FreeBSD other than the developers' lack of interest.

I want to use pkgsrc to get the latest version of texlive (our texlive stuck at 20150521). Unfortunately, pkgsrc bootstrap always failed for me with this error:
cc -L/test/pkgsrc/bootstrap/work/libnbcompat -L../lib -o pkg_create main.o perform.o pl.o util.o build.o -linstall...
IMHO, the current state of NetBSD now is very similar to FreeBSD 9. It has working ZFS support but not yet able to do root on ZFS. It has two hypervisors: HAXM (via qemu-haxm) and NVMM (via qemu-nvmm). Within a few releases, I think it could catch up with FreeBSD.
NetBSD now is not just for...
Hello, guys!
I like used NetBSD, but i concerned with a problem boot kernel over pxe.
In a few words: I want to booting over pxe multiple clients, mac address which is unknown to me.
A logical wish, isn't it ...
Everyone knows the directive in dhcpd.conf <range start_IP end_IP> ...
But why...
after having spent some hours to try to get NetBSD installed in a bhyve vm I'd like to ask here if anyone has managed to do so and wants to share the config?
The furthest I came was the UEFI installer image booting roughly half a second ("one screen of kernel logs") and then bhyve aborting with...

It is active developed as you could see in netbsd source changes lists. Because of it I started to follow Maxime Villard and started to admire him/her because of him/her heroic attitude when request remove pf and osf1_compat despite the...

When most were thinking MINIX and its microkernel had never and were still nowhere going, due to all the reasons many would argue about, today I went for the first time ever to the Distrowatch's week news appendix:

and fate wanted me to...
