Xfce Xfce4 Desktop Background Issues

I have been having problems with Xfce4 desktop background image. I usually turn off the feature and use a solid color of my choosing.

I set Wallpaper Style to None. It still displays a wallpaper image.

So I delete /usr/local/share/backgrounds/xfce directory and I end up with a solid black background.

Is this a known issue or just me?

No luck with that. I tried fiddling with other settings too in the desktop dialog box with no luck.

Might try nuking configs.
/home/xorg/.config/xfce4/

This started on Xfce4.20 and still persists after recently upgrading. The backgrounds directory was recreated for me after upgrading.

I considered the completely ridiculous approach of making a solid background color PNG and placing in the background folder.

But that would be admitting defeat.

Hi Phishfry,

I use xfce4 on my virtualbox installation (i'm not ready to replace Windows 10 just yet = lots to learn about FreeBSD). I simply right-click on the desktop then select Desktop Settings from the context menu. Set style to none, select a solid color and check apply to all workspaces (unchecked maintains the wallpaper on other desktops).

So i hope that you do not misinterpret my post because i am simply wondering if you are looking at a desktop other than the default desktop/workspace. If you didn't apply to all workspaces, then you will see the wallpaper in other workspaces.

I hope that you do not find my post to be insulting or offensive. I am just wondering if that is the problem.

By the way, everytime that i see your display name (Phishfry), i think of Louis Jordan. LOL

I hope that you figure out a solution,

I had that happen; I kept toggling different wallpaper settings and eventually it activated a solid color.

Strange, because it works for me regardless of the number of workspaces.

You may need to switch from and then back to Solid Color too, as Espionage says.
I'm on FreeBSD 14.2-RELEASE-p1 FreeBSD 14.2-RELEASE-p1 GENERIC amd64

This usually happens when/during "suspend" or power problem and session is some how messed up. Close all windows in all desktops. Open session manager. Delete current session. Log out. Log in. Restore whatever u like how u like. Open session manager and save session. This has worked for me in the past. At present I do not use suspend but rather only lock, shutdown, restart, or logout. I have had intermittent problems with suspend for a long time now. Its just not reliable?

I didn't notice any problems. All switches related to wallpaper work fine. Yes, there was a recent update. After it the background "flew off", but I restored it in the traditional way, without breaking and deleting cache directories, settings, etc. I also noticed that the appearance of the mail notification indicator was changed in the design (if there was a new mail, there was a "blue envelope", and now there is an "envelope with a yellow star").
