Recently I've tried delving into FreeBSD offshoots and I chose GhostBSD as my first choice to install on my machine. I've done some research and I've seen some issues with gaming laptops and compatibility w/ FreeBSD (and other BSD alternatives). At the start, I was just getting some driver errors, which would be an easy fix (according to the GhostBSD forms)... if and only if I can get to the correct shell and TYPE in the shell. The issue is, I have gotten to the shell where I can insert those commands... but the keyboard doesn't work, and I ultimately cannot boot into the live environment. All it does is type in random gibberish (i.e. uppercase a, b, c, etc.) and function keys seem to get me nowhere as well. Seeing my built-in keyboard didn't work, I tried using a Razer Huntsman Mini, but again, nothing.
Knowing this is the primary issue that is preventing me from being able to boot into the environment, I've looked at other resources online and they say something about USB and PS/2 (which I do not have access to or I am not sure if that's even relevant to the situation at hand). But, I do know this has to do w/ FreeBSD and not GhostBSD alone b/c I tried NomadBSD just to see if I could boot into the environment (and while it was USB bootable, I still got into the live environment, but there were keyboard issues).
Is there a way I can get my keyboard to work? Would I need to get an external keyboard (older than a certain year)? Or do I need to modify some things in my BIOS settings (tried "legacy USB", couldn't find that in my BIOS)? And if any modifications to my keyboard need to be made through the machine, I'm using Windows currently, so that might make some things more tedious.
Regardless, looking forward to any solutions. I hope I can get my machine partitioned and running GhostBSD soon enough.
