NVMe Optane H10 256SSD and 16GB Optane Memory

Hello fellow FreeBSD members, I have my NVMe drive running with a mPCIE adapter and I am wondering if there is any way to access just the 16GB Optane memory for use with a SWAP partition, and just to ignore the 256GB SSD?

It is like a 2 in one NVMe drive if anyone is wondering what this is all about, it is new to me, I assume you can just use the onboard ram if need right?

First off you would need an Intel motherboard with RST support.
After that I dunno.

FWIW, the 16 GB Optane drives sell for $5 on Ebay.
What a deal!!! That is the pure Optane memory one!! Unreal they are fast makes me wonder why they got rid of them. Does the new ones have the software on board ? Who knows, I wonder if that one would work at all in FreeBSD as it’s just Optane and no SSD with it.

I'm using various Optanes in M.2 format with no problems.

Thanks for the reply, this Intel product is exactly what I need for use with swap it can be beat on when updates for proxy antivirus and IPS/IDS run and at the same time it is not at risk of killing the drive as it is technically memory and not SSD and at the same time get the speed I need. I just wonder why I don't see two devices so I can access and partition the Optane H10 16GB and the SSD256GB separately. With the single 16GB M10 version the one without SSD does it show up as an SSD also? I wonder why they did away with them. It is a great idea for swap.

Great idea. In theory that should be possible; but in practical circumstances, I agree with cracauer.

System only detects the Intel® Optane™ Memory Media and not the Intel® QLC 3D NAND hints that this might be achievable. Unfortunately Optane (support & and production) is very much on the way out, and currently Intel has more pressing worries. So unless you're very lucky and "in-the-know" about intel internal driver properties: :(
This is a good read, so it is separate devices on one pcb how can FreeBSD see the memory, I am only seeing the SSD.
