Solved How to use this pipe for a usb not parallel port?

I have been used to using
gs ... ... ... | cat > /dev/lpt0 but my mfc with a parallel port is hopelessly jammed with paper in the inner rollers, so I am wondering if the /dev/lpt0 has ever been switchable to a usb attached or ethernet attached printer,, skipping the printcap and/or cups setup(s), and if so, may have more questions. [ or the -dDEVICE=hl7x0 switched also, or instead... ]

1.. find the ethernet-attached IP in its control panel 2... plug that IP into a
lpadmin command line to add it to cups [ not certain, but the whole command can maybe be found at askubuntu or a similar thread 3... find that the printer can now at least, print stuff using the PRINT dialog in
firefox...

I would post more of the solution, but as I solved. in the same timeframe, a ghostscript-to-laser setup [and this question was a ecotank-on-ethernet setup ] that should be two seperate threads which require more proofreading before posting, as it should be written up as a [two] how-tos... one of which is for older hardware.
