Can't wait for KDE/plasma6 to be fixed in packages

I'm using FreeBSD for daily desktop, and am currently locked out due to problems with latest pkg update of KDE and change to plasma6.
In desperation, I've pressed into service an old machine from circa 2009 with dual core Athlon X2 235e and just 4GB of memory. 2 wide screens with nvidia GT210.
Using FreeBSD 14.2 with KDE/plasma5 etc, and it works surprisingly well. Not at all sluggish for rdp connections and browser based tasks.
Just need to make sure that I don't do any pkg update or pkg upgrade by habit or mistake. ;)

This is the last quarterly build run: (Thu, 10 Apr 2025 01:01:15 GMT) https://pkg-status.freebsd.org/beefy20/build.html?mastername=142amd64-quarterly&build=4df04e22179b
This is 'latest': (Tue, 08 Apr 2025 01:01:20 GMT) https://pkg-status.freebsd.org/beefy22/build.html?mastername=142amd64-default&build=8fcb80b6544f

I should do a small tutorial on how to look things up, the interface is a little daunting and confusing if you don't know how it's set up.
What is the-right-way to know when this problem is thoroughly fixed ?
Or will it just be obvious news in this forum with many users posting to share their appreciation, enthusiasm, exuberance, etc ?

I'm hanging around here and learning something. Look, SirDice sent us a couple of sites above. We're waiting for a tutorial. Maybe there's some kind of regular system for monitoring such accidents.

Agree. I want to see if building kde from the ports collection will ensure a clean install and build. Will test it out. Worth a try. But I will add that the man pages and base system documentation warn against mixing packages and building from the ports collection. This is if you are sure you can undo this.

Hi. Tried to install freeBSD two days ago for the second time. First time was a failure.

I installed plasma6 and have a black screen. It's a good idea to reinstall it with plasma5 and upgrade to 6 when it's fixed, or it will be a mess and I should simly wait until correction ? I am new so do not know how often this kind of things occurs and how many days/week devs need to fix it.

Thank you.

What exactly went wrong?

I got 2 systems back up and running reasonably well by removing all kf5 packages, making sure that their kf6 equivalents were installed and manually installing all plasma6- packages.
Had similar issues this week on my m92p mediabox.

sudo pkg install -g plasma6-

solved it for me for now.

After logging in via SDDM the screen went grey and after a while was thrown back to logging in.
